I have been writing for four years and have published hundreds of posts. This year, I am getting ready to do something completely different than ever before. In fact, I’m scared to death to do it because it's a major change for me.
Before we go into that, let me share a little more about where I have been. I find it helps to understand where I am going when I can take a quick look backward.
These two stories have had a lot of readers stop by and over the last few years, I have written on a lot…
The way you protect your heart will determine the way your life will go.
I have spent a lot of time considering this overly quoted verse of the Bible found in Proverbs. There are tons and tons of blog posts, comments, and ideas on what this means too. For a quick refresher, here is the verse:
“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23 TPT)
Yet, so many people in our world today…
This week, I shared a story from the Gospel of Matthew. In it, Jesus is talking with God the Father and asks for the suffering he is about to endure to be taken from him.
It reminded me of times when I have asked God to take away pain or suffering in my own life. So often, we run into this in our lives. We experience something hard or terrible and we ask God to take it away.
Then, we have someone tell us that we are going through something because it is God’s plan or something else that…
People all over the world question God.
It’s the nature of the human experience. We see something happen in our lives or in the world and we ask God why they happen. Or, we are going through something absolutely terrible and ask God to take it away from us.
This is a natural part of humanity. In fact, it is so natural that Jesus in his humanity did the same thing:
Many of us writing here on Medium are side hustlers. We work on our writing in the fringes and margin of the rest of our lives. Typically family and day jobs. It’s just the way things are and that is perfectly normal.
Recently, I read an article that was telling us to be okay with “cheating” on our day jobs with our side hustles. And something about it was really unsettling to me. It made my stomach do flips in distaste for the idea.
So, yesterday, I shared my thoughts on how our day jobs and side hustles don’t…
I hate it when a full-time writer tells us, side hustlers, to work on our side hustle during our day job.
Every time I read something like that it makes me sick to my stomach. To say that is okay is a complete lie. It’s not okay. You’re being paid to do that particular job. And guess what?
If you don’t perform to the standards of the job, you can get fired. Or when layoffs come around, you’re on the chopping block.
Here’s the thing. That time, it’s your employer’s time. So you need to be doing your employer’s work…
Hope you are having a great Monday. To be honest, things have really sucked for our household over the weekend, but I’ll probably write more about it in the…
I used to go through a considerable amount of work to create a life plan.
In fact, I created an entire course on how to create a life plan and then make it work for you. It even led me to create a planner/journal around the entire thing too.
But this year, I realized something. All that work is for not if it doesn’t line up with God’s Kingdom purposes for my life. I can have all the plans in the world, yet, if I don’t bring them before God, they are not likely going to happen.
Many are the…
Over the last few years, my wife and I have been seeing new blessings in our lives. We have grown our family, grown our income, and I have started to see some major growth in my writing.
It was about three years ago that I started to understand something new. I realized that my ability to steward the little blessings in life impacts future blessings.
Not that I have to do things to be blessed by God per see. But, he does love to see us do the little things well. …
