You Need To Tell Your Story
Don’t be afraid to tell your story
A writer can’t be afraid to tell their story.
When I published my first book, I shared a story about work.
In the opening chapters of my book, I shared about how stressed out I was, that I was on the verge of a performance plan, and that it was negatively impacting my personal life.
I was afraid to share this story when I wrote it.
I had questions circling around in my head as I wrote, edited, and finally published it. Questions like:
- What if my coworkers read it?
- What if my bosses read it?
- What if customers read it?
I wondered if it would make things worse. Yet, I was on the other side of that story when I published. The fears were still there.
My fears were unwarranted, but I would have told my story anyway.
In the end, one of my bosses bought the book for other teammates who were struggling like I was. In fact, a lot of leadership picked up my book.
What the story did was help people see that its okay to struggle.
