After spending an entire summer reading the Gospel of John, I remember returning to college with questions. Mostly, because I read the other Gospels too, and I noticed something, John was different from the others.

“Why?”

Sitting across the table from my mentor, I pulled out the legal pad he had given me from the spring before. On it, I had dozens of questions about my newfound faith.

The one I wanted to focus on that day was not a simple one to answer, but it was one that perplexed me all summer long:

Why is the Gospel of John different from the other gospels?

Over the next hour, we looked at the Bible and discussed the different characteristics of each gospel. He explained that Matthew, Mark, and Like were similar because they may have used each other’s accounts of the life of Jesus to write their gospels.

And then, he pointed something interesting out to me.

The Apostle John had a different Call on His Life
