What It Means To Guard Your Heart

Not just an overly quoted Christian proverb

The way you protect your heart will determine the way your life will go.

I have spent a lot of time considering this overly quoted verse of the Bible found in Proverbs. There are tons and tons of blog posts, comments, and ideas on what this means too. For a quick refresher, here is the verse:

“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” (‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:23‬ ‭TPT‬‬)

Yet, so many people in our world today still do not guard their hearts well. Often, we take in some piece of information or someone else's emotions and make them our own even when they do not apply to our lives.

We do this by watching television, scrolling through social media, and even when we have conversations with people we know. Without thinking about it, we open our hearts up to whatever people are sending our way.
