What I Have Learned About Writing About My Faith

The first lesson might surprise you

People insult me and my faith daily. Then they turn around to tout the horn of acceptance and understanding. I have been seeing this more and more lately.

One of my most viewed articles in recent months has more mean comments than I have ever seen before. In the article, I address an issue with the Christian faith. Yet, those who don’t believe in what I believe feel the need to tell me how stupid they think I am.

It’s rather discouraging. In fact, it’s one of the hardest things about writing about my faith.

But, I understand why people do it. I have learned to take some comments with a grain of salt. Many people have been hurt by the church, Christians, and Christian leaders and they need a place to vent their hurt. So, they take it out on the first person (or every person in some cases) they come across.

From this recent experience, I have realized two things when it comes to these comments and hurt people that come across my articles.

First, I won’t apologize for my belief in Jesus.

Yes, I have personal convictions about certain things our world faces today. And telling me that I’m an (insert term here) will not…
