Want To Buy Me A Coffee?

Me neither.

Writers everywhere are looking for ways to support their work.

We write on different platforms. Create content for our blogs and email lists. Publish books and launch courses. And every so often we come across a gimmicky website that is worth a shot.

Well, maybe.

When Medium updates its terms of services I saw a lot of writers here think about jumping ship. With concerns that their work would be ripped off, they started flocking to new platforms. Some I had never heard of before.

Enter Ko-fi.

A self-proclaimed nicer version of Patreon. On this site, you post blog posts, videos, status updates, and photos. You can also sell products, as for subscriptions, and get a one time support by way of “buying a coffee.”

Do they actually buy you a coffee?

Well, no. But they give you the gimmick option to “buy the author a coffee” in order to elicit a one-time donation to support said author’s work.

Right now, mine says: “Buy Jack a Pumpkin Spice Latte.”

It seemed like a fun idea. So I signed up to see what happens. I figured maybe I’d receive a coffee or two. And then it would be one of those sights to disappear from my radar.
