Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets. He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men. — Mark 1:17–20

I was sitting at a table in the student union building when Jesus first called me. The same was true for my best friend. For others they were sitting in coffee shops, church, on the street, or in their cubicle at work.

Jesus calls us right where we are at in life.

I remember when he called me, I was not perfect by any means. In fact, I was in the middle of my most broken season of life. It was a time where I put all my worth in social status, girls, and my degree. And it wasn’t working out very well.

So often, we think that Jesus won’t call us into something more until we have cleaned ourselves up. We think we are disqualified by our circumstances and issues when it comes to God’s Kingdom.

Yet, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
