If you were to walk into a church on any given Sunday, would you be able to say the people there are living lives of freedom and healing?

Probably not.

The last time I stepped inside a church there were a lot of happy people. Yes, there were a lot of devout Christians mingling about the coffee bar and greeting each other. All in all, you might be able to say everyone seemed to be very free and healthy. Until you start digging into the stories of those people.

The last church we were part of was one of the big mega-churches in our area. We were involved in the Children’s Ministry and loved it. We started to create a small community around us too. But there was something missing.

As we got to know more and more people, we realized there were a lot of people who were trapped in unhealthy behaviors and attitudes. The more we got to know people, the more they seemed to be stuck.

Marriages were in shambles, but they pretended everything was fine. Children were neglected but somehow put on happy faces. People were scared of the world they lived in but bolstered their courage with other things.
