The Gospel of Matthew In 28 Days
A Prayer and Mediatiation Guide for the Gospel of Matthew
If you were to start reading the New Testament from beginning to end, you would start with the Gospel of Matthew. In this book of the Bible, we learn a great deal about the Kingdom of God.
In fact, the Gospel of Matthew was written to a Jewish audience originally. This is why he focuses so much on the Kingdom of God. I have always wondered if he did this after his own pursuits of trying to understand the Jewish rigors of the day.
After all, he was a tax collector. Hated by his fellow Jews. Yet, he likely had some Torah training from childhood. I have always wondered if he tried to reconcile his work as a tax collector and his heritage.
And perhaps, it was Jesus’s teaching about the Kingdom of God which helped bridge the gap for him.
How can this apply to us today?
So often, we ask this question of the Bible: How can this apply to us today?
When I think about following Jesus, so often we think about rules or we think about the supernatural. However, I think the Gospel of Matthew wants us to think about our placement in human history.
