But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. — Psalm 5:11–12 (NIV)

King David isn’t all happiness and excitement in this Psalm. He starts asking God to hear his prayers as he is facing troubles. He cries out to the Lord, asking for help and relief.

Sounds familiar to our lives today? We face inflation, war, disease, and our things at home and work. We cry out to God through it all, asking for help, hoping for relief. The answer to these prayers is found at the end of this chapter:

  • We can be glad when we take refuge in God.
  • We can have joy and rejoice in God.
  • He surrounds us with His favor as a shield.

A Shielding of Favor

Favor is so huge for our lives. When God favors our lives, we start to see the world change around us. Sometimes it is in the way that people interact with us. Other times, it is how things begin to work out for us.

How do we respond?
