Psalm 2: A Warning to the Nations
Oddly pertinent to our world today
“Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one.” — Psalms 2:1–2 NLT
What a time to come across this scripture. There are a few things I found interesting about this specific passage that I wanted to share this morning:
- The warning against the ‘kings of the earth.’ They prepare for battle, or in this current time are in battle. While this verse talks about going against God, I do think that war in general goes against God’s heart for the world.
- There are other forces at play in the world. Over the last few weeks, I have been feeling as though there has been significant spiritual warfare around me and my family. And I think it's important to remember for us.
All that to say, it is important to be considering what is going on around us in the physical world and the spiritual world. Though I did find this last verse very interesting:
Now then, you kings, use insight; Let yourselves be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with reverence and rejoice with trembling. — Psalm 2:10–11
