My Issue With People Believing the Bible As A Literal Text

Should you read the Bible as a literal text?

“We read about how women are supposed to wear head coverings in the church from Corinthians and now every woman is wearing a hat or something when the come to church…”

I cringed when our friend told us this. This isn’t the first time I have seen something like this happen in my mere 15 years of faith.

A teaching is shared from the Bible and they leave out the context under the importance of literal interpretation. When that happens, people start doing exactly what the Bible said without even thinking about it.

I went through a phase like this in college. I came into a relationship with Jesus as a sophomore with a cultural faith background. As I read the Bible and learned of its ‘inerrancy,’ I began to take everything literal.

Yet, as I have grown in my faith, knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, I have learned some important lessons about the Bible. But, before we begin, let’s take a look at a few things about the Bible.
