Medium Musing: Changing My Clap Strategy

With the changes, maybe its time to make changes of my own.

At the end of last month, the Medium Partner Program advised us that it was changing the way it is paying us. Or at least, they made it public (for the conspiracy theorists out there).

While I think these new changes will help us gauge our reader interaction, it seems to have changed the way people ‘clap.’

I have noticed in my stats that while people mostly skim my work there has been a cliff-diving fall of ‘claps’ and ‘fans.’

Also, highlighting and responding seems to be dropping off too, but I’m not sure if that is just my writing or a response to reading time being more important.

Nevertheless, I am seeing weird things going on with my stats. My MPP earnings haven’t really dropped which I am happy to see. But they also haven’t increased a great deal, which is a bit of a bummer.

With my early review of this information, which is only done when I have internet, and during the middle part of my workday, I thought I would share a couple of insights and my new plan on how I am going to respond to my fellow writers.

3 Lessons Learned About the New MPP Update
