The Gospel of Mark
Mary Experiences Jesus
Mark 16:9–10
When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. — Mark 16:9–10
In these two short lines we learn about the first personal experience someone has with Jesus after the resurection. And the beauty of it is that it is a moment with someone Jesus has delivered from demons.
Many times as Christians, we think that we are lucky to get one or two personal experiences with Jesus, especially if he has brought healing to our lives or some kind of deliverance.
But, after those moments, we don’t expect to see him regularly. Unfortunately, this way of thinking is keeping us from experiencing Jesus in life changing ways on a regular basis.
Yet, we see that Mary experiences Jesus again in such a profound way that she immediately goes running to tell the disciples. Her experience is so profound that it cannot be held back.
This what Jesus wants for us. To experience him over and over again. And that it will be so deep and so wide that we cannot help but share it.
