John 16: The Peace that Overcomes the World

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33 (NIV)

A few years after I first became a Christian, I was faced with my first test of faith. While away from friends and family for a six-month internship, I slowly lost all peace and joy in my world.

I moved away from everyone I knew. I was working a job which didn’t pay my bills. And I was working more hours than I had ever worked before. In this, I lost sight of my connection to Jesus.

And in this time, joy was stolen from my life. And with the theft of joy, my peace left me. This was the first time I had ever been overwhelmed by the world since becoming a Christian.

It started innocently enough, but the more I lost my peace and joy, the more I began to take on the worries and troubles of this world.

While this was a time of exponential professional growth. It was one of the darkest times…
