Jesus the Servant Leader
Mark 9:35
He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.” — Mark 9:35
Culture hasn’t changed much over the last 2,000 years. In the time of Jesus, the disciples discussed who was greatest among them. Sure, Jesus had three that he kept in his inner circle, but they wanted to know was going to be seated at the right hand of Jesus in heaven.
Today, we see this same thing happening in the corporate world, in politics, in the organizations we belong to, and yes, even in the church. There is always a jockeying for position of people looking to be first.
I have seen this at every job I have ever worked. And I have seen it in Christian organizations and churches. It is as if people believe that being at the top determines one’s identity.
The Me First Attitude
There have even been times in my life where I get this attitude of needing to be first. It grows in me and I start doing everything I can to get to the top. And it all stems from a me first attitude.
This attitude keeps us from understanding our role on earth. And it almost always leads to a downfall in our lives. Whether it…
