The Gospel of Mark
Jesus the Anointed Messiah
Mark 14:3
Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy. While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume over his head. — Mark 14:3
I remember the first time I saw someone being anointed. I didn’t have much reference for this before. I had heard of people anointing homes and cars and things for protection, but not like this.
We were in a small group for church a few years back. We were doing it as a way to consecrate (or set apart) that person as they were preparing to take up a calling for that God had given them.
I wasn’t sure what to expect exactly, but I remember thinking something wild would happen. But it didn’t. We anointed this person with oil and went on about our small group.
Yet, thinking back to that time, I realize there was something special that happened in the spiritual. We didn’t see it in the physical, yet, in the spiritual spaces there was as breaking lose of opportunity and favor for this person.
Sometimes, the physical actions or steps that we take move us into a new spiritual authority or favor that changes our lives.
