The Gospel of Mark
Jesus Expects His Family to do the Will of God
Mark 3:33–35
Jesus replied, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he looked at those around him and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” — Mark 3:33–35
Christians get weird when you talk about the will of God. It’s unusual when it comes to the will of God because Christians are afraid to say that they are doing God’s will.
I get it though. After seeing so many people doing terrible things and declaring it the will of God, it totally make sense. What am I talking about? Well, Let’s dive int it a second.
The Holy Wars during the middle ages were fought because two parties thought they were doing the will of God. The Bonnie Prince Charlie led a Scottish Uprising against England because he thought it was the will of God.
Instance after instance liter history with people who thought they were doing the will of God and boldly declaring it. And in so many situations, people climbed on board those bandwagons.
But this story reminds us that we need to be conscious of doing the will of God. Jesus expects it of us.
