How To Price Your Books On Amazon KDP
Don’t price your way out of sales
“Can you look at my books and tell me why you don’t think they are selling?”
That was the question I received from an author via Twitter a while back. After getting his author page, I saw the problem immediately.
He has three books up on Amazon KDP. They had decent covers, the book descriptions were interesting, and he had some excellent reviews. But there was a problem.
His Kindle books were priced at $9.99. His paperback books were priced at $21.99. Looking at these prices, I know I would have passed up his books, and that’s probably what was happening.
I reached out and asked about his sales. He has twenty-five total sales, all from people he knew. I looked closer, and his books were all under 200 pages.
I asked him why his book prices were set like they were on Amazon. He said that way. He would make a healthy profit margin.
Then I asked him what he spent on the books. It wasn’t too bad, thankfully. He made his money back with his friends and family who bought his book. But no one else was buying.
We discussed his book pricing, and I suggested he look at other books in his categories. Sure…
