He Will Be Called Immanuel
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. — Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)
The prophet Isaiah had much to say about the coming Messiah. We learn from the book of Isaiah many of the signs that would show us who the Messiah would be, and one of them comes in the virgin birth.
As I reflect this morning on this verse of the Bible, I am reminded that Immanuel means “God with us.”
My reflection takes me on a journey through my previous Bible readings because it is interesting to me that this would be so significant. After all, God had been with Israel in many situations.
God with Israel
God never left His people. Yet, the proclamation of God being with them probably was a huge encouragement from Isaiah’s time until Jesus came. However, it should be noted that God was with Israel from the formation of their nation.
He was with Abraham, Issac, Jacob. As Jacob’s family grew into the nation of Israel in Egypt, God was there. In the wilderness, God went with them and provided for them time and again.
