“Lord, you will grant us peace; all we have accomplished is really from you.” — Isaiah 26:12 (NLT)

This morning, I am reflecting on this verse in the quiet of my living room. Looking around, our Christmas tree is aglow with lights and the rest of the house is dark in the early morning.

Peace is in this place.

Yet, the sun will come up. My daughters will wake. And I will start work. Peace will easily slip away. But it doesn’t have to slip away from us. It can stay with us all day long.

After all, Jesus is the one who brought peace on earth. Sure, it doesn’t seem very peaceful now. Lord knows that Christians can be among those who are the furthest from peace too.

However, this verse reminds me of where our ultimate peace comes from. It doesn’t come from things. It doesn’t come from quiet moments. Heck, it doesn’t even come from my first cup of coffee.

It comes from Jesus.

Now, I am two thousand years removed from Jesus in the flesh, but there have been moments in my life where He has walked right into a situation and brought me true peace.
