Can Faith and Money Coincide?

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” — Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

We have all heard this bible verses quoted when it comes to how Christians should interact with money. From just these two lines we are supposed to think that God and money are in confrontation or competition with each other.

But is this really true?

For years, I have had the mindset that money is the problem, the enemy, and the thing that keeps me from all that God has for me. And because of this, I have run from money more than anything else.

Even when I saw people within the church who had lots of money, driving fancy cars, and living in huge houses, something inside me honestly felt very put off by this. After all, wasn’t all of this counter to what Jesus tells us about money?

The problem is that this one verse has caused so much sadness, distrust, and poverty in the church today that we forget that God made everything out of nothing. And…
