Building Memories With My Kids Over Working Extra Hours

An important thought from fishing with my daughters

I wouldn’t trade all the money in the world for the time I got teaching my daughters to fish that day. My daughters had been asking me to take them fishing for months and we finally set a date to go out to the lake.

Yet, it wasn’t an ideal time.

The previous week I had found out that I didn’t get a job I applied for at work. I also was severely behind because I inherited 20% of my workload from someone who had just quit.

On top of that, I had a bunch of things to do around our house and I wanted to spend time writing. Yet, I got everything ready the night before.

That following morning, we all loaded up on that cloudy day and went to the lake. We got all set up, I taught them about the pole, bate, and how to cast the line.

And then, for the next three hours, we fished.

Looking back, I am so thankful for taking the time that morning to spend with my daughters. We laughed, talked about fishing when I was a kid, and even got rained on.

In that morning, we created memories for my daughters that will stick with them for the rest of their lives. And you know what? I’m thankful I made work wait until Monday.
