Advent: The Journey Toward Christmas
Beginning the journey
I love the Christmas season. Getting excited about all of the traditions and experiences with my children and family is central to this time of year. The other important part is the acknowledgment and celebration of Jesus coming to earth for the first time.
For my family and I, this is a special time because we believe that Jesus came to earth, died on a cross, and was resurrected to life. Through his life and actions, we believe that he came so that we may be saved from sin and enter into the presence of God now, and in heaven.
For this reason, we celebrate Advent in an expectant excitement that Jesus came to earth to save the world from their sins and that he will one day come back to make everything right.
This year, I am reading stories related to Jesus coming to my children. We will look not only in the gospel accounts, but in the books of the Old Testament and other places in the New Testament.
Most of all, we are going to look at the amazing reality that God would come down to earth for us. And the best way to think about this comes from this quote by C.S. Lewis:
