I was so afraid. Looking up at the ropes course in Lake Tahoe, I was standing frozen in fear. I did not want to climb the structure or try to walk across the ropes.

Sure, I was strapped into a harness. And yes, it was a safe activity because many people had done it before. But that didn’t change the fear I felt.

Finally, I mustered up the most courage I had to climb up the structure. Two guys from my group helped me work up the courage to do it. I climbed up the form, and one of them said I should go up the “standing pole.”

I started even before I was ready.

Without asking a lot of questions, I did it. Only to find out it was a big pull that goes up thirty feet. On top, you are supposed to stand and then jump off.

I sat on top of the pole for a long time. This was the last thing I wanted to be doing. The fear came back, and I was almost to where someone would have to get me down.

At that moment, I thought I would die of fear, fall, or something else altogether. Finally, someone yelled, “ask Jesus to help you get down.”
