7 Steps to Recover from Writer Burnout

A simple outline when you feel like you have hit burnout

I have learned over the years that I need to have a plan for when I burn out.

Over the last couple of weeks, life has been so busy and I tried to keep writing my typical 10–15 posts a week. I can’t do it when my day job is crazy busy. And we had events every day of the week as a family too.

Thankfully, I learned to have a plan ahead of time so I can recover from burnout with writing and life in general. Today, I want to share what I do when burnout occurs.

Cut back on everything.

The first thing I do is to make sure I slow things down. The more I work, the more tired I get. The less I work, the better my clarity can be. So, I try to cut back some.

Evaluate the situation.

Next, I focus on where I am at in life. What is working? What isn’t working? How might I cut back to ease myself into my high productivity efforts? I evaluate where I am now.

Cutting out less essential things.

Sometimes, you need to cut things out. I have lots of ideas and things I wish I were doing. But I don’t have all the time to do them. So, I cut some of the…
